The Faculty of Information Technology at Zarqa University won second place in the 2025 IEEE Best Student Paper Competition at the Jordanian level, hosted by the Jordan University of Science and Technology.
Student Laith Hamdan won second place in the IEEE Jordan Student Paper Contest 2025 (IJSPC 2025), sponsored by the IEEE Jordan Section, for his research titled "Using Machine Learning to Predict Fog Based on Big Meteorological Data - A Case Study of Amman Civil Airport," and supervised by Dr. Ahmed Al-Samadi.
The competition received (76) research papers from various Jordanian universities, which were evaluated by referees from both inside and outside Jordan. The top (15) research papers were selected to be presented in the final stage before a specialized jury, who evaluated the presentations and selected the top three winning papers.
Prof. Dr. Nidal Al-Ramahi, Zarqa University President, emphasized that this achievement reflects the distinguished academic level Zarqa University has reached and embodies the competence of its students and their ability to compete locally and internationally. He noted that the university continues to support scientific research and student creativity as a fundamental pillar of the university's vision and mission.
He pointed out the importance of engaging in such scientific competitions, which contribute to enhancing students' research, analysis, and critical thinking skills and open up new horizons for them in the fields of innovation and technology.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hassan, the Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology, expressed his pride in this achievement, which reflects the Faculty's ongoing efforts to develop students' scientific and research capabilities. He emphasized the Faculty's commitment to providing a stimulating educational and research environment that supports excellence and creativity.
He added that the Faculty places special emphasis on enabling students to participate in scientific forums and academic competitions, which contributes to raising the university's ranking and strengthening its presence in various technical fields.
