On Sunday, May 11th,
2025, the Faculty of Media at Zarqa University participated in a workshop on
"Artificial Intelligence and Combating Fake News in Political
Discourse." The workshop was organized by the Bayt Al-Hikma Faculty of
Political Science at Al al-Bayt University under the patronage of Dr. Hani Akhu
Arsheideh, the university's Vice President for Community Affairs.
Dr. Othman Al-Tahat, a faculty
member at the Faculty of Media at Zarqa University, said that the spread of
fake news in political discourse represents a serious challenge that requires
advanced strategies to confront it.
He explained that fake political
news is characterized by its rapid spread, diverse form, and precise targeting
of different groups, making it difficult to detect and combat manually.
Therefore, relying on modern technological tools such as artificial
intelligence has become an urgent necessity to enhance analytical capabilities
and early detection of misleading content, and to protect public opinion from
manipulation and misinformation.
He added that artificial
intelligence possesses tremendous analytical capabilities that enable it to
accurately examine texts, images, and videos to detect signs of forgery,
manipulation, or grammatical and spelling errors that often appear in fake
news.
"Despite the great potential
offered by artificial intelligence, success in combating fake news requires
close cooperation between technology and human efforts. Artificial intelligence
models must be improved to be more accurate and transparent, and easy-to-use
tools must be provided to the public", Tahat emphasized.
Dr. Ahed Abu Dhuib, Dean of Bayt
Al-Hikma Faculty, emphasized at the opening of the workshop that its
organization reflects the university's commitment to keeping pace with modern
technologies in the field of political media and benefiting from the
experiences of experts in the field of political communication. He noted that such
a workshop contributes to equipping students with the skills to distinguish
fake political news through the use of artificial intelligence techniques.
The workshop, moderated by Dr. Sayel
Al-Daghmi, the Faculty's assistant dean, and attended by a number of faculty
members and students, concluded with an interactive discussion between the
students and the lecturer, as questions were raised about the future of
artificial intelligence and its relationship to combating fake and misleading
political news.
