In a distinguished scientific and
spiritual atmosphere, the Faculties of Science and Sharia at Zarqa University,
in cooperation with the Deanship of Students’ Affairs, organized a joint
scientific day on Tuesday, March 18th, 2025, entitled "Fasting
and Knowledge" on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan. The
scientific day was attended by Dr. Mukhled Al-Zoubi, the Dean of Students’
Affairs; Prof. Dr. Anas Al-Khalayleh, the Dean of the Faculty of Sharia; Dr.
Alia Burqan, the Dean of the Faculty of Science; faculty members from both
Faculties; and a group of students.
The scientific day included a
crescent-sighting session presented by Dr. Muhammad Mardini, who discussed the
mechanism of sighting the crescent and its importance in determining the
beginning of the Hijri months. In addition, an introductory video, prepared by
students from the Science and Sharia Clubs, addressed the scientific and
religious aspects of fasting. A chanting session was also presented by students
from the Faculty of Sharia Club, which captured the spiritual atmosphere of the
holy month of Ramadan.
Dr. Abdul Khaliq Dardas, from the
Faculty of Sciences, delivered a lecture titled "Fast, and You Will Be
Healthy," discussing the health benefits of fasting according to recent
scientific studies. Prof. Al-Khalayleh delivered a lecture titled "Why Do
We Fast?" He reviewed the wisdom behind fasting and its impact on the life
of a Muslim. Dr. Alia Burgan emphasized the importance of scientific research
in understanding the health and physiological effects of fasting, noting that
recent studies highlight the benefits of fasting in enhancing immunity,
improving bodily functions, and maintaining nutritional balance.
Prof. Al-Khalayleh explained that
fasting is not merely a spiritual act of worship, but rather carries profound
health and psychological dimensions. He pointed to the compatibility between
the teachings of Islam and recent scientific discoveries regarding the benefits
of fasting.
Dr. Al-Zoubi emphasized the
effective role of such scientific events in raising awareness among students
and the community, praising the active participation of students and faculty in
discussing various aspects of fasting from a scientific and Sharia perspective.
The event concluded with honoring
the students and faculty members who contributed to the success of the
