A group of
students from the Faculty of Media at Zarqa University participated in the
fourth dialogue session, which was organized by the "Media Against
Hate" initiative in cooperation with "I Dare", and with the
support of the European Union, on Thursday, February 20th, 2025.
The session
addressed professional standards in the media, in addition to the professional
and ethical dimensions of journalistic practice, where journalist Basil
Al-Akkour, editor-in-chief of the "Jo 24" website, and Dr. Ruba
Zeidan, director of the Media and Communications Department at Al-Balqa Applied
University, presented in-depth insights into the ethics of media work, and the
role of journalists in promoting social responsibility and combating hate
speech.
Dr. Amjad
Safouri, Dean of the Faculty of Media at Zarqa University, stressed the
importance of students' participation in such events, which contribute to
developing their skills and enhancing their understanding of the standards of
professional journalistic work, noting that the Faculty is keen to provide
students with an integrated practical experience, by integrating them into
academic and training activities with various media institutions.
He added that
direct interaction with media experts provides students with the opportunity to
learn about the challenges of the profession and the mechanisms for dealing
with them, which enhances their ability to practice media work professionally
and responsibly, noting that the Faculty of Media is constantly seeking to
develop its curricula and programs to keep pace with rapid developments in the
media field.
This
participation comes within the framework of the Faculty's efforts to enhance
partnership with actors in the media sector, and opens broader horizons for
students to gain practical experience, which contributes to refining their
skills and enhancing their opportunities in the labor market.
