As part of preserving the status of
Arabic poetry and the Arabic language, the Literary Forum for Students of the
Arabic Department at the Faculty of Arts, Zarqa University, organized a lecture
on "The Importance of Heritage" on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
The lecture was presented by Alyan Al-Adwan, the President of the Jordanian
Writers and Literary Union.
The session was moderated by Dr.
Rayhan Al-Masa'id, and was attended by a number of faculty members and
students. In his lecture, Al-Adwan highlighted the importance of heritage as a
cornerstone of national identity, emphasizing that attacks on heritage are
considered a historical crime, citing Israeli assaults on Palestinian heritage
as an example.
Al-Adwan also discussed the
significance of the Palestinian cause, which remains central to Jordan,
underscoring the deep connection between the Jordanian and Palestinian peoples.
He further elaborated on the role of Nabati poetry in enriching the Arabic
language and reviving neglected vocabulary, stressing that Nabati poetry is
metrically structured with profound literary content and significant cultural
value.
The poet recited a selection of
Nabati poems in which he praised the achievements of the Jordanian state and
the Hashemite leadership, and celebrated the various Jordanian governorates.
At the end of the event, Dr. Saher
Al-Qarala, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts, presented poet Alyan Al-Adwan with
a commemorative plaque in appreciation of his contribution.
