In a remarkable sports achievement,
Zarqa University secured first place and the gold medal in the Aqaba Half
Marathon, held on Friday, December 6, 2024, in Aqaba city.
The event, organized by the
Jordanian Marathons Association, saw wide participation from local, regional,
and international runners, including various age groups, genders, and
individuals with special needs.
Student Hanwiah Adam Hasbalah, from
the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, stood out in this
competition due to her hard work and dedication. She claimed first place and
the championship cup for the female category after completing the 21-kilometer
race, winning the gold medal.
Following the race, a victory
ceremony was held at the Revolution Square, where the awards were distributed
by His Highness Prince Firas bin Raad, Chairman of the Jordanian Marathons
Association, and His Excellency Naif Al-Fayez, Chairman of the Aqaba Special
Economic Zone Authority.
Also present were His Excellency
Governor of Aqaba, Mr. Khaled Hajaj, Mr. Sahal Dudin, CEO of Ayla Oasis, His
Excellency Senator Sharhabil Madi, and Miss Lina Al-Kurd, General Director of
the Jordanian Marathons Association.
Regarding this achievement, Zarqa
University President, Professor Nidal Al-Ramhi, expressed his pride and
happiness in the university's performance in the race. He said, "At Zarqa
University, we believe in the importance of sports as part of our educational
and personal development process for students. This victory represents the
spirit of excellence and determination that our students possess, and it is the
result of the continuous efforts made by the university to support sports and
cultural activities."
He added, "We consider these
victories as a renewal of our resolve and an inspiration for other students to
participate in such events, proving to everyone that Zarqa University’s
achievements go beyond academics to show our capabilities in sports."
For his part, the Dean of Student
Affairs, Professor Majed Massadeh, praised this achievement and highlighted the
university's administration's role in providing necessary support to talented
students. He emphasized that this achievement, along with other successes, is
the result of the significant support received by the Deanship of Student
Affairs from the university administration. He noted that the Deanship offers
all necessary facilitation for nurturing talented students and providing
sufficient training to help them compete and win local and regional awards.
