Students of
the Faculty of Pharmacy at Zarqa University, within the course of pharmacology
and drug chemistry, have begun conducting "ethnopharmacological
studies" aimed at documenting popular uses of medicinal plants.
The study,
which is being conducted under the supervision of Dr. Farah Al-Amouri, aims to
document popular uses of medicinal plants in a number of cities in the Kingdom,
including Zarqa, Mafraq, Amman, and Irbid, with the aim of documenting them as
part of the popular heritage, in addition to comparing traditional uses with
proven scientific studies.
Dr. Ahlam
Al-Kilani, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, said that these studies aim to
raise students' awareness of common diseases in society, stressing the Faculty
of Pharmacy's constant interest in its students through conducting studies and
holding workshops and courses that positively reflect on students. She pointed
out that documenting the popular uses of medicinal plants is a source for
discovering medicines, as most medicines with herbal sources were discovered
through the traditional uses of peoples.
