Under the patronage of His Excellency, Dr. Obaidallah Al-Moaaytah, the General Director of Security. Al-Zarqa University, in collaboration with INJAZ for Community Awareness, will organize an initiative titled “Yes to Sports, No to Drugs” on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at the Al-Hussein Youth ‘Sports City’.

This initiative is part of the community and youth efforts of Zarqa University and all community institutions aimed at combating the scourge of drugs and preventing it, in line with the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II.

His Majesty always emphasizes the importance of collaboration and joint efforts from all security agencies, ministries, civil society institutions, parents, and students themselves to combat this menace and develop recommendations and proposals regarding the role required of state institutions, universities, and civil society institutions in limiting and combating the spread of drugs.

A statement issued by the organizers of the initiative affirmed that the initiative aims to develop the youth's interests in positive activities such as sports and others, stemming from the principle of 'change your life. It aims to occupy the youth with activities that benefit them in their society and prevent them from having idle time for engaging in negative activities.

Some may wonder whether an addict can return to a normal life after recovering from addiction. This difficult question is one of the reasons that make addicts hesitant to make the decision to quit drug use. However, numerous cases of successful recovery confirm that having a suitable environment, social support, family support, and genuine determination can make the life of a recovering addict normal to a great extent, according to the organizers.

The statement, “Jordanians unite in their love for the country and the defense of its security and the security of its children,” emphasized that this sports initiative carries social and moral dimensions more important than winning or losing, and it must be utilized to combat the drug menace threatening our youth's security.

It was stressed that the goal of any sports awareness activity is not just about winning or losing; our main goal is to change the lifestyle of addicts. Sports is comprehensive in terms of activity diversity and contributes to building a healthy body. The statement also mentioned the participation and support of various security agencies and directorates under the General Directorate of Security.

The statement expressed gratitude to all the organizers, including Zarqa University and all the official authorities that supported the launch of this initiative and framed this approach for us.

Prof. Dr. Majed Al Masadeh, Dean of Student Affairs at Zarqa University, stated that the university does not hesitate to support any initiative that serves the Jordanian society in various fields. He pointed to the continued directives of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Zarqa Educational and Investment Company, Dr. Mahmoud Abu Shaira, in harnessing all the university's efforts to serve the Jordanian society by offering solutions that drive all sectors of development in the Kingdom towards progress and prosperity.

He added that Zarqa University annually plans to contribute to the improvement of the social and economic reality of the Jordanian society by supporting initiatives, conferences, and scientific workshops that contribute to boosting economic development in Jordan.

He praised the efforts of the General Directorate of Security in maintaining security and safety in the Kingdom, making Jordan a haven of security and stability that many countries have lost, thanks to the professionalism and high expertise of the personnel of the General Directorate of Security. He attributed this to the support of His Majesty King Abdullah II for the General Security Directorate and other security agencies.
