About the Program
The Department of Computer Science was established with the establishment of Zarqa University in 1994, and it is nowadays one of the largest scientific departments. It was also the first department established in the Faculty of Information Technology, where the department contributed significantly to enhancing and enriching the university's position locally, regionally, and internationally.
The department offers regular studies in the morning and evening tracks, and the student is awarded a bachelor's degree in computer science after successfully passing 132 academic hours. The department also has a group of faculty members with high levels of scientific and practical teaching experience and high levels of research and knowledge capabilities.
Based on its mission, the Department of Computer Science constantly seeks to update and review study plans and the curriculum of courses in line with the continuous developments in the field of computer science. The department is also keen to ensure that the qualities of the graduating student are compatible with the needs of the market in these areas, as the department is concerned with building the student's specialized knowledge in the field of computer science in order to prepare the student to work in the fields of programming, computer networks, and the development of various computer systems. The department also organizes a set of curricular and extracurricular activities and events with the aim of fostering interaction and communication among the components of the educational process, the local community, and various public and private institutions.
The student studies the following in this major: Courses that build the basic knowledge necessary to study the major, such as mathematics, the English language, the Arabic language, and the principles of using computers Then he moves on to study specialized courses such as those that are based on studying the internal and organizational structure of a computer, computer operating systems, parallel processing, and computer networks. The student also learns courses that adopt programming knowledge as he studies a number of advanced programming languages, the foundations of algorithm design and analysis, data structures, object-and-visual programming, and database systems. The student will also learn about the latest methods of systems analysis and design using the latest systems used for this purpose, in addition to modern methods of software engineering. Then the student undertakes a practical training program in a company or institution and finishes his studies in this specialty by making an applied project in which he employs the skills and knowledge he gained during his university studies, which qualifies him to enter the labor market successfully.
As for postgraduate studies, the admission of students to the master's program in computer science, with its both comprehensive and thesis tracks, in the academic year 2011-2012 has begun. The department provides specialized materials that allow the student to identify areas of scientific research and delve into enhancing the student's understanding of the importance of the theoretical aspect of science. computer, without neglecting the practical aspect, in addition to promoting moral values and principles of scientific integrity in preparing research and university theses by following scientific research methods.
