Zarqa University, represented by the Head
of Radio and Television Department at the Faculty of Journalism and Media, Dr.
Alia Idris, participated in the third international two-day conference entitled
"Women, war and peacemaking in the Middle East" ,which was held by
the University of AlKitab in Erbil. She presented
a research on the social responsibility of the media in conveying the suffering
of women and highlighting their role in societal peace: the Palestinian women
in the prisons of the occupation as a model.
Dr. Idris highlighted the suffering of
Palestinian female inside the Israeli jails and after liberation by documenting
through the media various forms of torture and oppression of female prisoners
in the Israeli jails, especially Hasharon Prison. They suffer from their community's degratory
viewpoints while their families are proud of their struggle against the enemy.
She recommended that the issue of female prisoners should be tackled more
In addition, all the prisoners' issues
should be translated into other languages in order that the true image may
reach the international community.
The conference was held in cooperation with
the Center for Middle East Studies at the Swedish University of Lund, the
Organization of Excellence for Scientific Development and the Swedish-Iraqi
Network for Studies.
